A Revolutionary Minister in Sharaf's new government

dr-hazem.jpgFinally a Revolutionary Minister in Sharaf's new government re-shuffle!!! Dr. Essam Sharaf appointed Dr.Hazem Abdelazim to be the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, as a successor to Dr. Maged Othman.

Dr. Hazem graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in 1982 and he was the first of his class with honors and it is worth mentioning that Dr. Hazem Abdelazim was a professor at the Faculty of Computers and Information in Cairo University and Al Ain University in UAE as well as other colleges. Dr.Hazem got his Masters in applied Mathematics and a PhD in pattern recognition and artificial intelligence in addition to a Masters in Business administration from Maastricht University in the Netherlands in 2003.

As for his work resume Dr. Hazem held the position of Director of Research at Microsoft's branch in Cairo, as well as also holding a position at IBM institution for research in natural language processing technology in Arabic , and he had previously done work on reading mechanism technologies, where he had received a patent in this technological field.

As for his entry in the political scene and engagement with Governmental posts, in December 2007, Dr. Hazem was appointed CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) after serving as the Minister's senior advisor for the Technology Development Sector. Due to his outspoken nature and firm stance on his beliefs towards the "old" Egyptian regime, he chose to leave the position of CEO at ITIDA after facing many problems with old forces! After the 25th of Jan revolution Dr. Hazem was once again in the tech scene by serving as the CEO of The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC). Dr. Abdelazim’s professional experience is a blend of industry and academia which makes him perfectly fit to lead the Ministry in his newly appointed position.

Knowing that this government is only an intrim one and in order to lead Egypt to stability and out of the current stance it is in, Dr. Hazem has announced certain goals that he wants to achieve given that he knows there isn't much time to make 5 year plans and strategies! According to Dr. Hazem his ideal goals are short term ones that yield a high rate of productivity and that would cause an expected and tangible change to be recognized by Egyptians. On the top of his priority list is to enable Egyptians living abroad in participating in the electoral process by choosing their next president through the use of a reliable and secure technological solution. Another very important goal is to re-define the bill set previously that controls the power to cut or disable communications channels through out Egypt, this was the bill that allowed the old regime to sever communications on Jan 28th! On his to do list also, is the introduction of a bill that will deal with the right of information interchange...

Finally we send our congratulations to Dr. Hazem Abdelazim on his new appointement and wish him the best of luck as there is alot of work ahead for him. We look forward to his achievements in the tech industry in Egypt.
